Masserias and tenutas are traditional rural homes found in Apulia. You can arrange your accommodation, ceremony, and dinner celebration for your Apulia wedding. I will provide you with a wide selection to choose from.
There are many options for where to do your masseria wedding ceremony. You could choose a public place or one of the numerous masserias (old farmhouse buildings) available. I have a wide selection of these locations and can provide you with advice. Most of these venues can accommodate around 20 guests, and you would have the option to host a dinner and evening celebration there if you wish. The venue prices vary depending on the season, with rates ranging from 100 USD in the low season (April and May) to 250-300 USD during the high season in August.

Your Masseria Wedding - Tips & Info
Puglia is well-connected to Europe and beyond, with major airports like Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI), which is a 45-minute drive to the Valle d’Itria (Martina Franca, Alberobello), and Brindisi Airport (BDS), about an hour’s drive to Ostuni and Lecce. Taranto-Grottaglie Airport (TAR) serves smaller chartered flights but is less commonly used.
Renting a car is highly recommended for flexibility if you plan to get married in southern Italy, as many masserie and venues are in remote areas. Both Bari and Brindisi airports offer car rental services, and a GPS or offline map is essential for rural routes. While taxis are available in larger towns, they’re less common in rural areas. For longer distances, the train system connects Bari, Brindisi, Lecce, and Taranto.
Puglia’s warm Mediterranean climate and uneven countryside make physical preparation important, especially if your masseria wedding involves walking, dancing, or outdoor activities.
Stay active and get comfortable walking on uneven terrain during your Apulia wedding, especially if you have a photoshoot in the olive groves or an outdoor reception.
Puglia can get hot in the summer (June to September), so use sun protection with lighter clothing, sunblock, and proper hydration, and wear a wide-brimmed hat or sunglasses for comfort. Drink plenty of water, as temperatures can exceed 30°C (86°F).
If your Apulia wedding takes place outdoors, wear comfortable shoes for walking and standing, and consider bringing a pair of flats or sandals for moving between areas.
The Mediterranean climate in Puglia is generally mild, but it’s essential to be prepared for possible changes during your Apulia wedding.
In spring (March-May), temperatures range from 15-22°C (59-72°F), and a light jacket or shawl may be useful for evening events.
Summer (June-August) sees hot temperatures between 25-35°C (77-95°F), so lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and chiffon are ideal, and a stylish sun hat and sunglasses are recommended for your outdoor masseria wedding ceremonies.
Autumn (September-November) is mild with temperatures between 20-25°C (68-77°F), making it perfect for your outdoor masseria wedding, though a light jacket might be useful for evenings.
Winter (December-February) is cooler with temperatures ranging from 7-15°C (45-59°F), so a warm jacket is advisable for outdoor photos and evening masseria wedding.
For brides, light, breathable fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace are perfect for the climate, but if you’re wearing a long dress for your Apulia wedding, consider how it will move through cobblestone paths or grassy areas at masserie or venues.
For grooms, lightweight suits or linen options are best for warmer weather, ensuring comfort throughout your masseria wedding ceremony and reception.
In Puglia, it’s customary to enjoy an aperitivo (light drinks and snacks) before your masseria wedding reception, so consider adding this to your timeline.
Italians tend to eat dinner later, with receptions typically starting around 7-8 pm and dinner served around 9 pm or later, so plan accordingly, especially if traveling across time zones.
While many people in Puglia speak English, learning a few Italian phrases like “Ciao” (Hello), “Grazie” (Thank you), and “Buongiorno” (Good morning) can be very helpful and appreciated.
When preparing for your Apulia wedding ceremony and reception, always visit the venue beforehand, whether it’s an outdoor ceremony in an olive grove or inside a traditional masseria, to get a feel for the surroundings.
While Puglia is usually sunny, have a backup plan in case of unexpected rain—many masserie offer beautiful indoor spaces that can provide a charming and intimate alternative.
For guests, although Puglia offers a casual atmosphere, they should still dress appropriately for the venue. Semi-formal or cocktail attire is ideal for a masseria wedding, especially for evening events, and for outdoor weddings, comfortable yet elegant options are recommended.
Planning your masseria wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and with proper preparation, it will be a celebration of love, culture, and breathtaking surroundings. Coordinate with local vendors, such as florists, photographers, and hair stylists, as they are experienced with destination weddings and will guide you through every step of your Apulia wedding.
Be sure to communicate your vision well in advance. Puglia operates on Central European Time (CET), so adjust your schedules accordingly, especially when coordinating with international guests.
Lastly, consider purchasing travel insurance to cover any unexpected changes or delays, ensuring a smooth masseria wedding experience.
