Legal wedding in Punta Cana: Quick Guide

Getting legally married in the Dominican Republic is possible for non-residents, but it requires preparation and official documentation.

Step 1: Prepare Your Documents. Each partner must provide:
• Valid passport (copy of the main page)
• Original birth certificate
• Single Status Affidavit (notarized and translated into Spanish)
• Divorce decree or death certificate (if applicable, also notarized and translated)

All documents must be apostilled in your home country.

Step 2: Translate & Legalize
• Have all documents officially translated into Spanish.
• Legalize the translations through the Dominican consulate in your country.

Step 3: Send Documents Early
• Send copies to your wedding planner or officiant 6–8 weeks before the wedding for review.

Step 4: Arrival in the Dominican Republic
• Arrive at least 3 business days before the ceremony to complete any final paperwork or meetings.

Step 5: Civil Ceremony
