Queenstown Wedding & Elopement – FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to elope in Queenstown?

Queenstown elopement packages typically start around USD 4,496, depending on the location, duration, and add-ons.

What is included in your Queenstown elopement or wedding packages?

Standard inclusions are a local planner/photographer, location scouting, helicopter or 4WD transport, minimum 4 hours of photography, and a symbolic ceremony.

Can we legally get married in Queenstown as foreigners?

Yes, it is simple. You can apply for a marriage license online ($150 NZD) just 3 working days before the ceremony. However, many couples choose a symbolic ceremony to skip paperwork on the day.

Where are the best places to elope in Queenstown?

Top spots include The Remarkables, Cecil Peak (The Ledge), Coronet Peak, Lake Wakatipu shores, and nearby Glenorchy.

How far in advance should we book a Queenstown wedding package?

We recommend booking 4–8 months in advance, especially for summer dates which fill up quickly. We welcome bookings anywhere from 4–6 months out to just a few weeks beforehand. However, any reservation confirmed less than six weeks before your ceremony does not qualify for the 21-day refund policy.

Can we have a Queenstown elopement with guests?

Yes, bringing exactly two guests is ideal as they can serve as your legal witnesses. Most standard 6-seater helicopters can fit the pilot, couple, photographer, and celebrant, plus your two guests (depending on total weight). If you add a videographer, you may need to upgrade to a larger helicopter or book a second flight.

How long does a Queenstown elopement last?

Experiences typically last between 4 to 6 hours, covering travel, the ceremony, and photo sessions.

Is an officiant included in the Queenstown wedding package?

A Celebrant can be added for an additional fee.

What should we wear for our elopement in Queenstown?

Hiking boots are essential for safety. Bring warm layers and jackets, as mountaintops are windy and cold even in summer.
